Mircea Eliade Sports High School is based at 315-317 Splaiul Independenței, Sector 6 and traces its origins to 1928, when the Ministry of Labour founded a trade school with 100 students.
Over the decades the site has housed a girls’ sericulture school (1945-1948), the Ministry of Metallurgy’s school for mechanics (1949-1950), Vocational School No. 4 Metal, the Semănătoarea Vocational School (1960-1971), the Semănătoarea School Group (1971-1974) and, from 1974, the Semănătoarea Industrial High School.
In 2005 it became Mircea Eliade High School, taking its present name in 2013. In 2000 the building was strengthened and refurnished under a World Bank programme.

Alongside the school runs a Sports Club with five competitive sections. Training takes place daily, four sessions a week.
